Nova Scotia Department of Justice – Taking Learning Online
Managers' time is highly valuable. They need to be in their offices, leading staff, and dealing with issues. But they also need to find time to upgrade their training. At the Nova Scotia Department of Justice, getting the managers to a central training location was a scheduling challenge.
NSCC helped bring the training to the managers.
The department developed the content, and then worked with NSCC to take the learning online. "This was serious content, but it was done in a very colourful and engaging way," says Barbara MacKeigan, Manager, Justice Learning Centre. "In this relationship, NSCC was creative, capable and reliable. Our partnership with NSCC allowed us to make a learning event that really works."
ExxonMobil Canada – New Training for New Technology
ExxonMobil was about to install a three-quarters-of-a-billion dollar compression deck platform designed specifically for the Sable Offshore Energy Project off Nova Scotia. Exxon had existing operators in their eastern facilities, but none of them had been trained to use such a complex piece of equipment.
Based on NSCC's strong reputation and proven training abilities, the college was awarded the contract to administer, manage and deliver the training for operations and maintenance staff of the platform.
The full scope of services extended from analysis and planning, to the development of training tools and procedures, including an Operating System Manual covering the 14 systems on the platform. NSCC brought the experience to life for students by recreating the platform using state-of-the-art 3D technology. Future students and instructors will continue to benefit from these efforts through DVD training materials, also produced by the college.
"NSCC has been very responsive to the identified needs that we provided and have been very hands-on in terms of ensuring there was good participation," says Alan Jeffers, Public Affairs, ExxonMobil Canada. Exxon was so pleased with the content and delivery. NSCC was subsequently contracted to provide a lead resource to oversee the daily operations for the start-up and commissioning of the platform.
