Tuition & Fees
The Nova Scotia government approves the annual tuition fees for full-time regular programs (that includes all programs except apprenticeship, customized training and continuing education).

(1) The health and dental fees are mandatory for all full time students as well as Adult Learning Program (ALP) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) students enrolled in 3 or more units unless proof of alternative existing coverage is provided by the OPT OUT deadline. The payments for the coverage are collected with the first tuition payment. The cost for this plan in 2011-12 is $230 for 12-month coverage. Application Fee
The application fee is $25. This non-refundable fee must accompany your application. There is no application fee for those seeking admission to the Adult Learning Program (ALP).
The application fee for International Students (citizens of other countries) is $75 (Canadian).
Confirmation Fee
Once you are admitted, you are required to pay a non-refundable confirmation fee within the timeframe indicated on your letter of offer. This fee is applied against your tuition, and confirms your intention to enrol in the program. If you fail to pay the confirmation fee within the required timeframe, you risk losing your seat in your program. The amount of your confirmation fee is specified in your acceptance letter. For most programs, the fee is $100.
The confirmation fee is refunded only if the program is cancelled or the full cost of tuition is paid by a sponsoring agency. This fee is forfeited if you decide not to attend NSCC after you have confirmed, and cannot be held on your student account for future use.
Student Health & Dental Plan
The health and dental fees are mandatory for all full-time students (enrolled in programs of 20 weeks or longer) as well as Adult Learning Program students enrolled in 3 or more units unless proof of alternative existing coverage is provided by the OPT OUT deadline. The payment for the coverage is collected with the first tuition payment. The cost for this plan in 2011-12 is $230 for twelve month coverage.
The Student Health & Dental Plan fee for International Students (citizens of other countries) is $650 (Canadian).
Program-Specific Costs
Supplies & Textbooks
As part of your admissions package, you will be advised of the additional supplies that are associated with your program and that you are responsible for purchasing. These may include textbooks, resource materials, protective clothing, safety footwear, art supplies, etc. Program Fees »
Co-op Tuition
All students enrolled in a program with a mandatory Co-op Education component (Tourism Management, Culinary Arts and Power Engineering Technology) are required to pay non-refundable tuition in addition to regular tuition at the time of tuition payment. If the Co-op Placement is optional, the tuition is payable twenty days in advance of the commencement of placement.
Co-op tuition is the amount of one credit course. For both mandatory and elective Co-op placements, the Co-op fee is refunded if you are unable to obtain an approved Co-op Placement, but is not refunded if you drop, withdraw, or are asked to resign from your Co-op Work Term.
Tuition Payment Schedule
Programs Starting in September 2011
- August 5, 2011 – First Tuition & Fees Payment Due (50% + Student Association Fee + Health & Dental Plan). Payment Due: August 5, 2011 (20 business days before the start of the fall term). Your $100 confirmation fee will be deducted from the first installment amount if you've already paid the confirmation fee.
- January 6, 2012 – Second Tuition & Fees Payment Due (50%). Payment Due: January 6, 2012 (within 5 days of the commencement of the winter term).
Programs Starting in January 2012
- November 30, 2011 – First Tuition & Fees Payment Due (50% + Student Association Fee + Health & Dental Plan). Payment Due: November 30, 2011 (20 business days before the start of the fall term). Your $100 confirmation fee will be deducted from the first installment amount if you've already paid the confirmation fee.
When students receive Student Assistance from Canada Student Loan to cover tuition, the full tuition plus the Health & Dental Benefits and Student Association fees for the academic year are deducted from the first, main, loan disbursement.
These deadline dates can be deferred only if you can provide documentation that you are going to receive a student loan or your tuition is being paid by a sponsoring agency. You'll be required to provide your Canada Student Loan file number or official documentation from your sponsor.
Payment Options
Tuition for full-time students is due Friday, August 5, 2011. You have the following payment options:
- Online – You can pay health and dental, tuition and student association fees with Visa, MasterCard or American Express through your MyNSCC account.
- Phone – Call your campus or call the Admissions Office toll-free at 1-866-679-6722 (metro Halifax: 491-4911). Have your student ID # and your Visa, MasterCard, American Express card ready when you call.
- Mail – Pay by mail using a personal cheque.
- In Person – Stop by any campus and pay using a debit card, personal cheque, or credit card. Have your student ID # ready.
- Canada Student Loan – If you have been approved and have your loan documents you can mail the "Schedule 1" to your campus. If we do not receive your Schedule 1 before August 5th, you will need to arrange a deferral, which will allow you up to an additional 12 weeks to pay. Call the campus to receive additional deferral information. When your student loan is approved, you will need to bring the documents into your campus and we will deduct the full amount of your tuition and fees from the loan.
Tuition Refund
Tuition refunds are available according to the scale below, providing you formally withdraw early in the program. A formal withdrawal requires that you write a letter or complete a withdrawal form that is available through Student Services. Your refund does not include the confirmation fee.
- Before first day of class – full refund, less confirmation fee paid
- During first two weeks of either semester – 95% of semester amount, less confirmation fee paid
- After second week of either semester – no refund
If you have received a student loan or had your tuition paid by a sponsoring agency, the appropriate refund will be sent directly to your lending institution or sponsor. If a program is canceled after the start of an academic year all fees previously paid, including the confirmation fee, will be refunded to you.
