Reed IZrEAL Jones
Screen Arts, Class of 2006
My time at NSCC was challenging, but a great experience.
Reed IZrEAL Jones
Reed (iZrEAL) Jones likes to stay busy. "I don't sleep anymore," says the 27-year old NSCC Screen Arts graduate. iZrEAL has dedicated his life to what he loves and as a result only averages three or four hours sleep a night. Whether it's film, television, music videos, spoken word poetry, or hip hop, iZrEAL is constantly bubbling with ideas for new projects.
Even before he graduated from NSCC last year, he'd already achieved success. One of the first short films he made - "Soley Grey" - was chosen to screen at the 2005 Atlantic Film Festival. He also produced and directed a music video for burgeoning hip hop artist Jordon Croucher.
"My time at NSCC was challenging, but a great experience," says iZrEAL. "I was just at school or at work around the clock." The father of two is no stranger to hard work. He's been at it since the age of 15, working in construction, as a lumberjack, and in call centres.
In more recent years, iZrEAL has become better known as one of the founding members of the Word iZ Bond Spoken Word Artist Collective. Others may know him as the host of the new web TV show "The Underground Metropolis" on untv.ca. And he is fast becoming known as the creator of a new urban arts magazine called "Newzy," due out later this year.
"NSCC prepared me to be busy. When you finished something, the next project was starting up. You were always on the go." For that reason iZrEAL heartily recommends NSCC to his friends in the business. "It's not like you read and study and then hope you know how to do it," he says. "You actually make sure you know how to do it before you get out."
