Leah Hearn

Office Administrator

I hung in there and I stuck it out, and I just know that people will notice that about me.

Leah Hearn

Leah Hearn - Office AdministratorI left high school in Grade 11 but promised myself that I would go back to school someday. That dream became really hard to hold onto when I had kids. The choice always seemed to be work to make money or go back to school and ask my family to make sacrifices. NSCC's flexible approach to learning helped me find a third option—keep my job and go to school!

In the Adult Learning Program, I was able to study at my own pace. When I had trouble understanding something, the instructors were there for me. Sometimes they even missed their own lunch or stayed after school to help me along!

I had such a great experience earning my high school diploma that I decided to stay at NSCC. I have just graduated from the Office Administration program. I've also already found a contract position in an office and I've passed the office skills test required to work for the federal government.

It wasn't easy to go back to school in my thirties with three kids at home, but I did it. I feel really proud of myself for everything I've achieved and for the example I've set for my children.
