Partnerships

Partnerships are powerful agents of action that have the potential to transform the organizations that are involved. Nowhere is the transformation more powerful than in education.

NSCC is currently seeking mutually beneficial relationships with private sector and public sector organizations. To meet the evolving, innovative needs of the industry, we plan to establish

  • educational partnerships with energy sector companies that have or are establishing operations within Nova Scotia, and
  • alliances with economic development organizations working within their communities to promote the energy sector and increase opportunities for Nova Scotians.

Canadian Centre for Energy Information

NSCC and the Canadian Centre for Energy Information (CCEI) have a partnership that provides easy access to relevant and current information on energy related careers. Within this partnership, the college and CCEI exchange editorial content to enhance each other's online information, and guide traffic to each other's web sites.

EnCana, Ocean Rig and the Nova Scotia Department of Energy

NSCC received $2 Million through the Department of Energy from EnCana and Ocean Rig for the establishment of an offshore technology program. The main thrust of the partnership is to ensure that Nova Scotia's workforce is prepared for the technical requirements and demands of employers in the offshore energy sector. The partnership serves as an example of NSCC's mandate to build Nova Scotia's economy and quality of life through education and innovation. A college-industry team was established and today we offer the Petroleum Operations program at our Marconi Campus which is designed to meet the needs of the industry for entry-level workers.

Cape Breton University

Under the auspices of a Global Services Agreement with ExxonMobil, NSCC and Cape Breton University (CBU) have been working closely together for the past four years training ExxonMobil's global workforce. The college's partnership with CBU has helped establish NSCC and CBU as recognized world-class providers of oil and gas training. Whether directly supporting ExxonMobil's affiliate operations in Angola and Russia or providing training for other projects in which they own an interest. NSCC and CBU are proud of the benefits that accrue to the region as we deliver these intensive 12-month technical programs. The partnership also provides ESL, curriculum development, logistical support as well as project management services.

Imperial Oil

Through the support of the Imperial Oil Foundation, NSCC is enhancing our process operations programming by the addition of Petroleum refinery components. A team from NSCC and the Imperial Oil Refinery in Dartmouth have recently completed of a multi-year project to develop new curriculum and introduce new training systems. NSCC is proud to showcase the world's first "Cat Cracker" for training and educational purposes. As part of this initiative, Imperial Oil has hired a number of our graduates and provides work placements for students that compliment their educational experience at NSCC.

ExxonMobil

NSCC has worked closely with ExxonMobil since the beginning of the Sable project. Whether Sable's Operations Associates are working offshore, at either of ExxonMobil's onshore plants or at home on their time off, they are able to access NSCC's on-line Gas Process Operator training. This program is delivered through NSCC's On-Line Learning via the Internet and links with ExxonMobil's career progression program. NSCC has recently completed a major training contract for ExxonMobil in conjunction with the Tier 2 Compression Platform. NSCC provided a turnkey training solution that encompassed all aspects of training and competency assurance. The program used several innovative approaches to training including a web-based needs assessment, a 3D virtual representation of the platform, a take-away DVD with all instructional materials and dynamic instructional approaches. This program was managed within an ISO 9001-2000 quality management system and delivered to all of their operations and maintenance.
