Someone recently asked me, “What memory from being a student at NSCC stands out the most?”

The funny thing is, the memory that stands out the most comes from before I was a student. I was about to apply to the Public Relations program at Waterfront Campus and I had a lot of questions. I heard that NSCC offered “Program Information Sessions” where I could meet an instructor from the program and learn all about it.

So I signed up. I was nervous about enrolling in the program and I wanted to make sure it was going to be the right fit. I had talked to people who took the program and found interesting jobs, but I needed to get a closer look.

When the night of the program information session arrived and I first stepped on campus I was blown away by how spectacular the campus was. The impressive architecture and view of Halifax Harbour were enough for me to sign up.

The instructor, Shelley, greeted me and another girl who was also interested in the program. Thankfully Shelley wasn’t there to give us a “sales pitch” about the program. She was only there to answer questions and in the end the decision was ours.

I had written down about 30 questions in a notebook that I brought with me. I absolutely grilled her with questions. Everything from how much homework is there every night to what kinds of jobs do graduates find after graduation. She answered every single question.

The program information session put me at ease and confirmed that I found the program that was the right fit for me. When September came and it was time to start the program, I knew exactly what to expect. Best of all Shelley still remembered my name.

Sign up for a Program Information Session.
