Jean-Marc Vallée Helps Aspiring Filmmakers
January 4, 2012 – Media Release
Dartmouth, NS – A generous donation from award-winning filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée will go a long way to benefit aspiring filmmakers in Nova Scotia Community College's (NSCC) Screen Arts program.
In recognition for winning "Best Canadian Feature" for Café de flore at this year's 31st Atlantic Film Festival, Panavision Canada awarded Mr. Vallée a $10,000 credit towards the rental of camera equipment. Mr. Vallée invested this credit in future filmmakers by donating it to the Screen Arts program at the College.
"This donation will give our students more opportunities to use Panavision's state-of-the-art equipment," says NSCC's Doug Barnes, Academic Chair, School of Applied Arts & New Media. "I want to extend my sincere thanks to Mr. Vallée and Panavision Canada for this amazing contribution, which will truly make a difference to student learning."
Panavision is the world's leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of precious film and digital camera system lenses and accessories for motion pictures, television series and television commercials. "Panavision Canada recognizes the importance of fostering the next generation of filmmakers in Canada," says Stewart Aziz, Vice-President Marketing - Eastern Canada. "We want to give students an opportunity to get experience on industry-standard equipment that has been used by professional filmmakers to create many award-winning and legendary films."
Panavision Canada has been supporting the Atlantic Film Festival for over a decade. "I want to thank Panavision Canada for their commitment to the film industry in Atlantic Canada," says Atlantic Film Festival Executive Director Gregor Ash. "Donations like this ensure we continue to grow and inspire individuals to create films."
