May 31, 2010 – Media Release
Dartmouth, NS – Nova Scotia Community College's (NSCC) Board of Governors today announced the retirement of Dr. Joan McArthur-Blair as President of NSCC and the appointment of Don Bureaux as Acting President of the College. Both developments are effective immediately.
After leading the College for the past five years, Dr. McArthur-Blair has decided to retire for personal reasons. "On behalf of the Board of Governors and the College community, I have extended thanks to Dr. McArthur-Blair for her service and commitment to the College," said Sandra Greer, Chair, NSCC Board of Governors. "Dr. McArthur-Blair's reasons for retirement are of a personal nature. We respect her privacy in that regard and urge others to do the same. We wish her well in retirement."
Today, the Board of Governors met and confirmed the appointment of Don Bureaux as Acting President of the College. Don has been a member of the College executive team for the past two years, most recently as Vice President, Academic. "Don Bureaux is an accomplished educator and leader with a deep passion for the mission and values of the College," said Ms. Greer. "He will lead the College until the successful completion of a presidential search process."
The Board of Governors will be launching an immediate search for a new president. The process is expected to take the better part of a year and will include internal and external consultations prior to developing the search criteria.
