NSCC named one of Canada's Best Employers

January 4, 2010 – Media Release

Halifax, NS – Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) is one of Canada's best employers according to a study conducted by Hewitt Associates, a global human resources consulting and outsourcing company.

NSCC is the only Atlantic Canadian based employer to place among the 50 Best Employers in Canada for 2010 and the College is the first educational institution to ever make Hewitt's list.

"This achievement is the direct result of employees sharing their honest thoughts through an independent online survey," says NSCC president Joan McArthur-Blair. "It is an objective assessment of something that those of us who work for the College already know and feel – we do important, rewarding work that engages and motivates people. NSCC is a great place to work because we care about the work we do – changing lives through education."

The list of the 50 Best Employers in Canada for 2010 appears in the January issue of The Globe and Mail's Report on Business magazine. One hundred and thirty-four Canadian organizations registered to participate in the study. The results from this year's study are based on survey responses from more than 108,000 Canadian employees, with additional input from over 1,200 leaders and human resources professionals.

"Employee engagement is an important determinant of retention and recruitment and will become even more critical as we continue to feel the effects of Canada's labour shortage," says McArthur-Blair. "NSCC is committed to continually building a rewarding work environment that supports both personal and organizational success."
