NSCC students celebrate success at Skills Canada competition
May 29, 2009 – Media Release
Halifax, NS - Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) would like to congratulate Team Nova Scotia for an outstanding performance at this year's Canadian Skills Competition held May 20-23 in Charlottetown, PEI.
Team Nova Scotia included 29 NSCC students, ten of whom captured medals, including gold in Hairstyling, Electrical Wiring and Heavy Equipment Repair.
"The success of these young people, whether they are current students or on the apprenticeship journey, speaks to the quality of the educational experience learners receive at NSCC," says Jamie Hilts, NSCC Vice-President, Academic. "We're extremely proud of the commitment and skill each and every one of our students has shown in this competition."
The Canadian Skills Competition brings together more than 500 students from across the country in over 40 different trade and technology competitions. To earn a spot on Team Nova Scotia, students in secondary, post-secondary and apprenticeship programs first had to win gold at provincial competitions held in April at NSCC Campuses across Nova Scotia.
