NSCC receives federal-provincial infrastructure funding

April 30, 2009 – Media Release

Halifax, NS - Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) will soon begin work on more than a dozen infrastructure projects at campuses across the province.

Minister of National Defence Peter MacKay joined Premier Rodney MacDonald at Province House in Halifax this morning to announce that both governments will invest $17.5 million dollars from the Knowledge Infrastructure Program in NSCC projects.

The Knowledge Infrastructure Program is a cost-shared initiative between the provincial and federal governments to renew college and university campuses.

There are 14 approved projects that spread across ten campuses located in communities throughout the province from Cape Breton to Cumberland County to Yarmouth. Joan McArthur-Blair, NSCC President, commends both levels of government for recognizing the critical role post-secondary institutions play in the provincial economy.

"These projects will accomplish exactly what the Knowledge Infrastructure Program intends," says Joan McArthur-Blair, President of NSCC. "They will provide Nova Scotia’s learners with facilities that are equipped to deliver the leading-edge skills-training that the provincial economy demands and create work in local communities at a time when economic stimulus is very much needed."
