I am a single mother who has just returned to school after more than ten years of underemployment. Although I have graduated from university with a science degree, like so many others in the maritimes, I was unable to find a job related to my field of study. I spent years trying to make ends meet with little better than minimum wage jobs.
When my son was born, I decided that not only did I need a stable, good paying job, but that I wanted to do something that I know he would be proud of.
I enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Technology program, and it is a perfect fit! Every day is challenging and interesting, and I am excited every day to go to school and learn. My instructors are experienced and knowledgeable in their field, and I know that I am getting the best training possible.
I am excited to start working, and I am very proud of my accomplishments thus far (Honors). I know that when my son gets older, he will be proud of me too.

I moved to Halifax in the summer of 2009 from Saint John, New Brunswick. When I was living In Saint John I felt like my days were getting me nowhere and having been graduated from High School for three years, I had lost most of my friends in that time period. Life was changing and I felt like I was stuck in the same place so I decided to apply to NSCC. When I arrived on the first day I didn't know anyone and I was nervous and anxious. From the beginning I felt right at home and the people in my class became my new family. I have never felt so accepted and welcome in my life. My experiences at NSCC have been ones I will cherish for the rest of my life.

One of the biggest reasons for chosing the NSCC as my next career was their approach to their employees quality of life. Being a father of four young children, I wanted a job where I would be home the majority of nights during the year. The NSCC provides the flexibility for people to maintain a high quality of life both personally and professionally. I feel very lucky to be a part of this amazing organization.
