Program Overview

If you enjoy working with others, are caring, and take pleasure from improving the quality and enjoyment of life for others, the study of esthetics will lead you to a fulfilling career. As an esthetics student you will focus on all aspects of the esthetics profession in a therapeutic environment.


Success in this intensive program demands a strong work ethic, effective time management skills, and a commitment to academic achievement.


Students will learn how to provide esthetics services such as facials, makeup, hair removal, body treatments, manicures and pedicures. If you are creative, have good manual dexterity, and enjoy working with others, this program is for you.

Choose NSCC


  • This program is recognized by the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) and graduates are eligible to write the CANS provincial exam to earn a Junior Esthetics License to practice in Nova Scotia. NSCC grads are recognized as some of the highest achievers.

  • NSCC instructors are dedicated to ongoing professional development, and they maintain their involvement in provincial and national competitions.

Employment Opportunities


  • Graduates could expect to have careers working in salons or spas.

  • Once you obtain your Junior Esthetics License, you can begin your 960-hour apprenticeship under the guidance of a Master Esthetician or Master Hairstylist to complete the CANS requirements for your General Esthetics License.

  • High School Graduation Diploma or equivalent.

Other Info


  • This program is not offered at regular NSCC tuition.

  • Our Esthetics Lab is set up to simulate a real esthetics spa. Your practical training begins on classmates and progresses to spa clientele.

  • Students must purchase an approved student equipment kit within the first two weeks of the start date. The campus will provide information regarding the cost of the kit upon acceptance into the program.

  • To work in Nova Scotia, students are required to pass an examination administered by CANS, covering both practical and theoretical competencies. To be eligible to take the examination, students must have accumulated 1,250 hours under the direct supervision of a Master Esthetics Instructor and successfully completed all components of the program.

  • Upon successful completion of the CANS exam, students receive a Junior Esthetics License.
