This is a one-semester course taught as an introduction to data acquisition and analysis in investment management and personal financial planning. Consideration is given to manual and computerized research, manipulation and interpretation of financial information. A detailed treatment of the procedures, standards, regulations and rules of conduct related to the handling of securities by financial intermediaries. Topics include ethics, statutes, opening and closing cash and margin accounts, types of buy and sell orders, client monthly statements and other processes related to the securities industry. This one semester course is taught in partnership with the Canadian Securities Institute.

General Insurance Essentials
This course introduces the insurance business; insurance intermediaries; the insurance company—the insurer; basic documents, common clauses, insurance practices; automobile insurance—the application; the automobile policy—third-party liability, automobile accident benefits, loss of or damage to the insured automobile; government automobile insurance plans.
It also covers the law and insurance; insurance contracts; government control and insurance organizations and associations; fire insurance; the Homeowners policy; other personal lines policies; liability insurance; commercial coverages—property, business interruption, crime, surety; claims and loss adjustments; reinsurance; risk management; loss prevention.

Work Experience
The work experience component provides the student with an opportunity to apply new skills and concepts appropriate for entry-level positions within the occupation. Students will assess their own performance and be evaluated by an industry partner. Students will identify personal outcomes they wish to attain during the work experience and will keep a journal.
