Concentration Overview

Stocks, bonds, financial instruments and markets – capital is the foundation of individual wealth, corporate development and economic growth. This second year concentration delivers the essentials of: personal financial planning; portfolio development; securities products, compliance and distribution; and general insurance contracts.

As part of the curriculum, you will receive course recognition by the Insurance Institute of Canada and have the opportunity to qualify for certifications through the Canadian Securities Institute of Canada. Costs for these certifications and the time management challenges of the program can be significant but these credentials will be your passport to positions with securities firms, general insurance, financial planners and other employers in the financial industry.

Choose NSCC

While many of these courses are available separately through other channels, only NSCC offers you the opportunity to take them all together in one year, under one roof. You will also have the advantage of learning the Principles and Practices of Insurance course from a recognized industry professional.

Employment Opportunities

Upon graduation you will be qualified to accept an entry-level position in many different financial industries including banking, brokerage houses, investment firms and trust companies. You may take an assistant position to a financial planner or in a securities firm. One of the most significant areas of opportunity is in the insurance industry. This industry is 'greying' and middle-management positions may be available in the next few years.
