Media Studies Students will learn the effects of mass media on society and the historical significance of print and non-print media. The course examines a wide range of media and this is done in chronological sequence - i.e., print, photography, radio, film, television, popular music and rock videos, cross-media studios and the Internet.

Intro to Moving Image This course introduces the learner to the concepts and fundamentals of communication through moving image. Students will explore storytelling, framing an image, and sound design. They will begin to develop analytical skills to facilitate moving image appreciation and technical skills in relation to the production of moving image. Learners will collaborate and work independently to plan, design, and produce basic videos and/or animation to convey an idea or concept.

Portfolio & Professional Development During the third semester, students participate in one of the following activities, depending on the campus they are attending and their future course of study or goals: Portfolio development, Self-directed study and Work term. Pre-registration information sessions at each campus expand on the options for this semester. Applicants should refer to the website for further information regarding options offered at each campus. Finally, students are encouraged to consult with their instructors concerning their goals upon completion of the Applied Communication Arts certificate.
