Canadian Forces Continuing Education Program (CFCEP)

The Canadian Forces Continuing Education Program (CFCEP) was developed with the objective of expanding learning opportunities for:

  • members of the Canadian Forces (regular and reserve, current and former)
  • civilian employees of the Department of National Defence (current and former)
  • immediate families of each group

This program is designed to address the unique circumstances of living and working in the military community, with the overall goal of encouraging participants to pursue self-development through upgrading and training at the community college level.

How is Nova Scotia Community College involved?

Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) is a member college in the CFCEP and is committed to delivering NSCC full-time and part-time programs including NSCC diploma and certificate credit courses to the military communities throughout Nova Scotia and by distance delivery through the NSCC Online Learning.

Where do CFCEP members take courses from NSCC?

These programs and courses may be offered in the military community, on campus, or over the Internet through NSCC Online Learning.

What are the benefits to getting involved with CFCEP?

CFCEP program is designed to assist members to enhance their career and employment opportunities. NSCC offers credit for military training whenever possible and this is determined by program or on an individual basis through a Prior Learning Assessment process. NSCC works with CFCEP to deliver these programs and courses in convenient locations and delivery modes.

CFCEP/Office Information Technology Certificate Program

The Office Information Technology program is designed to meet the needs of students wishing to be trained for entry-level office positions. This one-year program is an accelerated study of information processing by technological and traditional means, effective communication, and general office skills. Applicants with RMS clerk QL5 or above status are granted nine course credits and are required to complete the following courses to obtain an Office Information Technology Certificate.

  • Organizational Behaviour I
  • Introductory Financial Accounting I
  • Computerized Accounting I
  • Database I
  • Spreadsheets I
  • Professionalism in Business

Certification in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety, along with completion of a personal professional portfolio, are also required.
