Kassondra Walters
Managing a distributor in South Africa
Our instructors always told us that we would hit the ground running, it's always nice to hear that, but it's better to really get out there and do it.

Success in international markets is something that Kassondra Walters focuses on every day. A graduate of NSCC's International Business program, Kassondra works for Ocean Nutrition Canada – a Nova Scotia firm that supplies Omega-3, EPA and DHA ingredients from fish oil.
Kassondra chose the International Business program to expand her career opportunities in sales and marketing. "I saw this as a broader education experience. Even if I didn't end up working in international business, at least it would strengthen what I had to offer employers," she says.
Born and raised in Dartmouth, NS, the possibility of international travel was also a selling feature. "I thought, ‘I'll learn about business around the world and travel for work.' I just saw it opening up a whole new world, really."
Kassondra joined Ocean Nutrition as a customer service coordinator for her work term. She quickly learned how relevant her program was to the real world of work. "I had a strong understanding of logistics and knew how important managing a supply chain was to a company's competitive advantage. Having that knowledge made me a better communicator with customers," she says. "Our instructors always told us that we would hit the ground running, it's always nice to hear that, but it's better to really get out there and do it."
After her work term, Kassondra was asked to stay on in her position. However, she applied for a sales position just before graduating and took on the role of inside sales representative. "I graduated on a Saturday and started work the following Monday," she says. Two other NSCC grads work with Kassondra at Ocean Nutrition – one is in logistics and the other is in sales.
Ocean Nutrition has been very supportive of Kassondra's career. She manages a distributor in South Africa and picks up leads from Africa, South Africa, South America, Canada and the US. "Working with the different countries is really intriguing," she says. And how about the travel? In the past year Kassondra's work has taken her to Boston, Chicago and California and she looks forward to more exciting destinations as she continues to build her career.
