Deanna Frankton-Bruhm
Nursing a tradition
Over thirty years ago, Deanna's mother graduated from the Practical Nursing program at NSCC. In 2005, Deanna did the same and was chosen as the Valedictorian for the Lunenburg campus.
For Deanna, it was a choice between being a flight attendant or a nurse. From all reports, her patients and
co-workers are glad she ended up following in her mother's footsteps and becoming a nurse.

Deanna actually started studying nursing at university and transferred to the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program at NSCC.
Her university credits gave her a head start and she was able to enter the LPN program half way through the 18 month long course. "I had a wonderful experience at the College. Everyone was very kind and welcoming." On the second day of her second clinical placement, while still completing her NSCC training, Deanna got offered a job. "I felt like the College really prepared me for work," she says and adds that her unit managers often comment on how mature she is for a new graduate.
Deanna currently works at Fisherman's Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg in the Emergency Medicine Department. "I realize when I'm working now what my mom was talking about," she says. "I so enjoy using my skills, helping people, and feeling productive." It's a good thing that Deanna enjoys what she's doing because she doesn't have much time to sit down these days. In addition to working full time and raising her three year old daughter, my mom was talking about," she says.
